Julia Franzén makes her film debut in the socially critical comedy "The dance club". The influencer plays Rose, one in the group of people trying to alleviate their mental illness through dance, instead of curing their anxiety with medicine.
The first scene Alva Bratt did with Julia Franzén was when her character would tell about a beauty operation she had gone through.
She sits and talks about having operated on her sex. It was my first scene... and then I felt that this will go smoothly. She does it without problems. It was so damn fun, says Alva Bratt.
"Must see something"
Julia Franzén has no acting background, but was offered to audition and got the role by director Lisa Langseth pretty soon after.
I just trust that she sees something in me. I couldn't really see it myself then. But Lisa is experienced and has done this before, so she must see something that I don't understand, says Julia Franzén and smiles.
Lisa Langseth is full of admiration for how Julia Franzén handled the role as Rose, an apparently successful and beauty-operated girl, but with a sorrow inside.
What Julia did so nicely was that she managed to play Rose without making a parody of her, but she became a real person. Because Rose is a kind of girl that we easily despise in society.
Mental illness
The debate about mental illness engages Julia Franzén who has been open about her own ADHD diagnosis and also signs under the film's underlying theme that it may be society that needs to change instead of us taking more and more medication to feel good.
I love that we talk more about mental illness. But the solution needs to be talked about more. There is a lot of medication as solutions to the symptoms. But you don't get to the bottom of why we feel the way we feel, she says.
Julia Franzén is constantly current, as an influencer, in social media and also on TV where she is currently participating in SVT's big entertainment venture "The game". But how does she keep up with everything?
That question is probably asked by almost everyone. Because now I'm 35 and have to have children. When will I have time for my private life, she says and laughs.
And there may be more movies.
I'm very humble about it and just grateful that I got to do this. But if I get the question I absolutely want to do more. It has been incredibly fun.
"The dance club" has its cinema premiere on September 19.
