The Norwegian ski king Johannes Høsflot Klæbo is teasing the Swedes before the season. It's like trying to make gold out of gravel, he says.

Johannes Høsflot Klæbo is a guest on this evening's SVT program Skavlan & Sweden. There he talks about how the disease just before the World Championship in Trondheim this spring made him depressed, but that he then got "the ten best days of my life".

The World Championship king, who left the home World Championship with six gold medals, also gives a poke at Swedish men's cross-country skiing.

On the question of what his grandfather Kåre Klæbo, who has been his trainer, could have done with the Swedes, he answers:

It's like trying to make gold out of gray stone. But he would probably have been able to do something. Besides, it's hard to say, I have no idea how they work.

Johannes Høsflot Klæbo admits that despite everything, there are a few Swedes who can keep up with the Norwegians.

There are glimpses of light with both (William) Poromaa and (Edvin) Anger who have gone fast in recent years. It's positive, I hope they'll come up and go fast. I've grown up with duels like (Petter) Northug and (Marcus) Hellner, he says about the Swedish-Norwegian fight in the 2010s.
