Netflix's upcoming television series based on the video game series "Assassin's Creed" will be directed by Swede Johan Renck, according to Variety.

Renck is best known for directing the HBO miniseries “Chernobyl,” for which he won an Emmy. Other credits include the series “The Last Panther,” as well as episodes of “Breaking Bad,” “The Walking Dead,” “Vikings,” “Bates Motel,” and “Halt and Catch Fire.”

"Assassin's Creed" is based on the popular video game series about time-traveling assassins.

The first game was launched in 2007 and was an immediate success, and has since grown into a global gaming giant with 14 games, over 230 million copies sold, and a 2016 film adaptation starring Michael Fassbender.

The plot of the series is still under wraps, but according to the series' official synopsis, it "centers around the secret war between two shadowy organizations - one seeking to determine the future of humanity through control and manipulation, while the other fights to preserve free will."

Filming is expected to begin in early 2026.
