Berg receives the award because he is "one of Sweden's greatest music creators of all time", as part of the motivation reads.
"As a songwriter and frontman in the alternative rock band Kent, he changed Swedish pop music with a unique language and sound that both reflected and shaped his time", the motivation continues.
"The most important role in the music industry is the songwriter, and I have immense respect for all colleagues out there, who write, sing, make music, produce and record so much fantastic music time and time again. For me, it is both a gift and therapy to write music – sometimes magical, sometimes brutally frustrating. Therefore, I am deeply honored, proud and grateful to receive this award", says Joakim Berg in a press release.
The Music Publishers' Honorary Award is given annually to one or more music creators who have inspired Swedish music life for a long time. Previously, it has been awarded to, among others, Eva Dahlgren, Björn Ulvaeus and Mauro Scocco.
This year's award will be presented at a gala in Stockholm on November 7.
