Chinese fighter jets have locked their radar on Japanese fighter jets on two occasions on Saturday, claims Japanese Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi.

The Minister of Defense calls the action "dangerous and extremely regrettable" and states that the government has lodged a "strong protest" with China.

Relations between the countries have recently deteriorated, after Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi made statements about Japanese military intervention in the event of a possible attack on Taiwan.

The incidents occurred off Okinawa on two separate occasions, one in the afternoon and the other in the evening. Japanese airspace was not reported to have been violated in connection with the incidents.

Fighter aircraft can, among other things, use their radar when launching missiles.
