On July 1, 2012, Jamie Vardy left Fleetwood Town, after having helped shoot the club up from the fifth to fourth division. The move went to Leicester City, where he is seen as one of the greatest in the club's history after 13 years.
However, a few weeks ago, the news came that the 38-year-old would leave the club after the season. But it was at least a fine farewell.
In Leicester's last home match of the season, against Ipswich, he got to make his 500th appearance for the club. And he wouldn't leave goalless.
The profile-strong striker – who in 2015–2016 was one of the key players for the team's miraculous league title and who won the Premier League's top scorer title in the 2019–2020 season – got to score goal number 200 in his last match for the club.
As so many times before, Vardy went deep, and was ice-cold in the finishing moment. A fierce jubilation broke out, despite the team already being clear for relegation.
The goal, which came in the 28th minute, was not the home team's only one. In the second half, Kasey McAteer extended the final result to 2–0.
In the 80th minute, Vardy was substituted to standing ovations from the supporters who sang his name and accolades from teammates.
Earlier, the club has announced that Vardy will not play the last league match against Bournemouth away next weekend.
