"When a regime ... uses weapons of war against its own people, it is to cause bloodshed and not to make them go home, which is why the people need the international community to help and support them," says Panahi, who condemns the regime's brutality.
According to Norway-based Iran Human Rights, at least 648 protesters have been killed in Iran, but the organization warns that the number could be much higher. According to Britain-based Iran International, at least 12,000 people have been killed.
Jafar Panahi received the Palme d'Or in Cannes last year for his film "It was just an accident", which is currently in Sweden.
