The Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani will chair the meeting on Thursday, where the outgoing US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will also participate.
Representatives from Germany, France, and the United Kingdom are also expected to attend the meeting "to discuss the situation in Syria a month after the fall of the Assad regime", according to the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Transfer of power to democratic institutions in Syria, creation of a new constitution, and incentives for economic development are some of the points that Italy wants to bring forward.
Blinken's effort will be one of the last as US Secretary of State in President Joe Biden's government. The trip to Italy suits Blinken well as he, together with traveling Biden, will among other things receive an audience with Pope Francis.
