No Swedish podium in the biathlon World Cup sprint in Hochfilzen. But a good starting position for the pursuit start. Nice to come out on top, says Martin Ponsiluoma, who finished sixth.

Tommaso Giacomel excelled in Austria, taking home the victory in the 10 km sprint. The Italian was four seconds ahead of Eric Perrot, France, and another two seconds faster than third-place Philipp Horn from Germany.

Sweden, which had a great start to the World Cup season with six podium finishes in Östersund, was not in the fight for the absolute top spots but still offered good shooting, good skiing and good placements.

Results that put them within reach of the podium during Saturday's chase start.

I am very happy with the race, says Martin Ponsiluoma, who finished sixth.

It was really a step forward. I got to show what I've felt in training. It's a very stable race, a bump is not something to complain about.

In the pursuit start he is 25 seconds behind Giacomel.

It's great to be able to go out on top. It's always an exciting and inspiring situation.

Sebastian Samuelsson finished ninth, 39.2 seconds behind the winner.
