According to Saar, it is about expanding the so-called Abraham Agreement, which was concluded in 2020 between four Arab countries that had previously stood in solidarity with the Palestinians on the one hand and Israel on the other.
He says that it is in Israel's interest to expand the list of countries in the "circle of peace and normalization" while the country's fundamental and security interests are protected.
But during the same press conference, Gideon Saar emphasizes that the occupied Golan Heights will "remain a part of" Israel, even if a peace agreement is concluded.
A large part of the Golan Heights was occupied by Israel in connection with the Six-Day War in 1967. Only the USA has recognized Israel's sovereignty in the area, a decision that was made in 2019, during Donald Trump's first term as President of the USA.
