No European football striker is hotter than Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyökeres, who until Sunday had scored nine goals in his last three matches. But in his shadow, another Swedish player is also showing fine form ahead of the upcoming national team gathering.
When Alexander Isak scored 1–1 for Newcastle in Saturday's Premier League match away against Nottingham, it was the fourth match in a row that the 25-year-old found the net.
He was also credited with an assist to Joelinton's 2–1 goal. Isak rolled out the ball to the Brazilian, who then took care of the rest on his own. Joelinton fooled the Nottingham defense and nicely put the ball in the far corner.
Newcastle won 3–1 in the end.
Nottingham's leading goal also involved Swedish interest. Anthony Elanga, who was selected for the upcoming national team squad, took the free kick that Brazilian Murillo headed in 1–0.
It went worse for another national team star on Saturday. Dejan Kulusevski's Tottenham suffered a defeat at home against newcomers Ipswich, 1–2. It was Ipswich's first win of the season.
On Monday, the Swedish national team gathers in Spain to prepare for the two upcoming Nations League matches at home: against Slovakia on November 16 and against Azerbaijan three days later.
Arsenal is now without a win in four straight league matches. Gabriel Martinelli laid the foundation for three possible points, but Pedro Neto equalized (1–1) for Chelsea in tonight's London derby at Stamford Bridge.
Liverpool tops the table with 28 points, five ahead of Manchester City and another four ahead of Chelsea, Arsenal, Nottingham, and Brighton.
