The national team star is enormously popular in the football-crazy city in northeastern England.
The 25-year-old has not become less popular after scoring the decisive goal in the 2-1 victory in the league cup final against Liverpool at Wembley a couple of weeks ago. Isak managed to fit in a few hours of celebration with the team in London before boarding a plane to the national team gathering in Marbella last week.
It's going to be fun to return to the celebrations with the team and see some reactions in the city. I haven't been back in Newcastle since we won, says Alexander Isak.
On Saturday, when Newcastle has a day off, Isak, national team teammate Emil Krafth, the other players, and coach Eddie Howe will travel from their home arena St James' Park in an open-top bus through the city. The parade along the streets is expected to take around two hours.
Town Moor is a larger open field on the outskirts of the city. The celebration will conclude there with, among other things, live music, special guests, and a replay of the final on a large screen, according to BBC.
Historic event
I don't know exactly how many will be there, but most of the city, I think, says Isak.
Then it will be many. In and around the city, Newcastle has around 800,000 inhabitants.
Karen Kilgour, who leads Newcastle City Council, gives an idea of what to expect.
"We know how much this event means. It's going to be one of the largest events we've seen in the city."
Newcastle's next match in the Premier League is at home against Brentford on Wednesday next week.
"Returned to our playing style"
With a pleasant feeling, Isak left the Swedish national team gathering earlier in the week, as a goal-scorer in the 5-1 victory over Northern Ireland on Tuesday. A release that wiped away the disappointment after the 0-1 defeat against Luxembourg three days earlier.
We returned to our playing style. We were much tougher in the duels, we pressed high, we won balls, we played forward. We played as usual, it was on Saturday that most things went wrong, says Isak.
You're here so rarely. The next time will be in the summer. Therefore, it's always important to conclude a national team gathering in the best possible way. We're all aware of that, regardless of whether it's a training or competitive match.
