Superstar Alexander Isak, Viktor Gyökeres and Dejan Kulusevski are given every day of the week if they are available.
None of the three played at Puskás Aréna.
Neither the regular team captain Victor Nilsson Lindelöf, nor Sebastian Nanasi and Lucas Bergwall.
But those who got the chance took it – and did so with ease. Benjamin Nygren and Anthony Elanga did not leave anyone to miss Isak or Gyökeres on top.
The significance of the win and the performance was highlighted by the defender Isak Hien afterwards.
The win is big. For everyone here and perhaps above all for the players who have not played much, to feel that they are part of it and competing for places. Who knows what will happen in September, everyone can get injured.
Worked on the defense
When the World Championship qualifying starts, against Slovenia and Kosovo, both matches will be played away.
The meeting with Hungary was also an opportunity to practice a lower defense.
It's something we haven't worked on as much before. It's been full-on for the entire 90 minutes.
It felt good. Of course, there are things we need to work on. It's the first match where we really worked on this low defense. Overall, it was good. We will end up in matches and situations where we have to sit low or defend a lead or whatever it may be, says Hien.
Many alternatives
Impressed by the players who don't usually play much?
I'm impressed, but at the same time, I've seen them in training so it wasn't new to me. It's the strength of this group. I think we have fantastic players "all over". We have many alternatives on several positions. It's something that will be useful for us, says the team captain.
The national team will meet Algeria at the Strawberry Arena in Solna on Tuesday. Then probably with a starting lineup that differs from the one against Hungary.
But I'd like to play, says Isak Hien.
