Isak missed large parts of the season due to a broken leg and was not involved when Sweden secured a place in this summer's World Cup in March.

He returned in the spring, but suffered another minor injury a couple of weeks ago. In the season-ending game against Liverpool, he sat on the bench for the entire match.

Since the national team gathered on Wednesday, Isak has taken part in much of the training and expects to play, starting in Oslo on Monday evening.

“Scary experience”

"There shouldn't be any worries. It remains to be seen how much I play," he says.

The attacking star sees the World Cup qualifiers as a useful opportunity to get some much-needed minutes in his legs.

"That's the most important thing, to get back out there and play. That's something I haven't done much of lately."

At today's press conference with the World Cup squad in Stockholm, Alexander Isak commented on the serious leg fracture he suffered in December.

"It was a complicated injury. I noticed pretty quickly that it wasn't good. It wasn't fun. My reaction was: "Sigh." I've had some muscle injuries but it was my first surgery. It was a scary experience."

"It's been a challenge. A lot of rehab, which is the most boring thing there is,"

“I had to”

Isak has seen video of his broken leg.

"I don't like watching injury videos, but I've seen it. I had to see it now because I scored at the same time."

The 26-year-old had to follow Sweden's World Cup playoff from the sidelines.

"It wasn't that hard. They were doing it. If they hadn't, maybe you would have felt like you wanted to be there and contribute."

Sweden can form a strong attacking duo in this summer's championship. Isak's first season in Liverpool has not gone as he had hoped, but his national team mate Viktor Gyökeres has been successful at Arsenal, winning the league title and playing in the Champions League final on Saturday. Gyökeres was also the one who took Sweden to the World Cup.

“Greatest one can experience”

"Incredibly impressive. His performance and his goal were decisive. Together with many other players, I think he took huge steps," says Isak.

Isak is relieved that his World Cup dream came true, despite the broken leg.

"To represent Sweden in a World Cup is probably the greatest thing you can experience. The biggest stage."

Sweden will face Norway (away) on Monday and Greece (at home) on Thursday before the team travels to Dallas next weekend.
