Khamenei - who has still not appeared in public after being appointed as the successor to his slain father, Ali Khamenei - first mentioned the Twelve-Day War in June last year, when "the enemy believed that the people would overthrow the Islamic system."

He then mentioned the ongoing war, where "On its first day, with tearful eyes and sorrow-laden and broken hearts, we said goodbye to our great leader."

Despite "differences of religious, intellectual, cultural and political kinds," a "special unity" has emerged among the people, Khamenei claims. Iran has thereby been able to deliver a "confusing blow that has caused the enemy to fall into contradictions and make irrational statements," he adds.

In a statement earlier on Friday, Iran's military threatened to attack American and Israeli representatives and military personnel abroad.

"We are following your cowardly officers and commanders, pilots and evil soldiers," said military spokesman Abolfazl Shekarchi, according to Iranian state television.

"From now on, based on the information we have about you, neither walking trails, resorts, nor entertainment establishments around the world will be safe for you," he adds.
