The closure came after the Revolutionary Guards said a ship in the strait was “hit by warning shots” and stopped after taking “an unauthorized route.” The strait will remain closed until “the American interventions in the region are ended,” Iran further stated, according to state media.

According to Centcom, a Cyprus-flagged vessel was attacked. One crew member is reported missing.

"Iran made a bad decision. Now they have to pay," writes US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth in a post on X on Sunday night.

The overnight US strike, ordered by President Trump, is the third wave of US attacks on Iran this week. The latest development comes amid an increasingly tense situation between the countries.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi was in Oman on Saturday for talks on the Strait of Hormuz and how it should be administered. The day before, a delegation from Qatar arrived in Iran with the aim of easing tensions between the parties.

In connection with this, reports came from AP that the US has demanded that Iran make a public statement declaring the Strait of Hormuz open and promising to refrain from further attacks on ships in the strait. According to sources to several media outlets, the US has set Saturday as the deadline for such a statement.
