The feared gang leader Marcos Roberto de Almeida – known as Tuta – has been arrested in Bolivia, announces Brazilian federal police on Saturday.

Tuta, believed to lead one of the largest organized criminal networks in Brazil, has been internationally wanted by Interpol with a so-called red flag, which implies suspicions of very serious crimes.

The Brazilian and Bolivian special forces were involved in the arrest. The formal charge at the time of the arrest was that he had used false documents.

Tuta is accused, among other things, of having led an international network that has engaged in money laundering.

He is believed to have replaced the former gang leader Gilberto Aparecido dos Santos, known as Fuminho, who was arrested in Mozambique in southeastern Africa in 2020. Fuminho was believed to have been the leader of the First Capital Command, which is thought to be one of the world's largest criminal organizations.
