The Czech Republic has been approved for a loan equivalent to 22 billion Swedish kronor, while France has been approved for 162 billion kronor, the Commission said in a press release.
The matter will now proceed to a formal decision by the EU Council of Ministers.
This means that all but one of the 19 countries that applied for money from Safe have been given the go-ahead. Hungary, which, like France, has applied for the equivalent of over SEK 160 billion, is still waiting for a response - which is mainly linked to criticism of the country's anti-corruption work over many years.
Sweden has not applied for money from Safe, citing that it can borrow more cheaply on its own.
