“This cannot wait,” says investigator Claes Norgren about why the changes are important to speed up the construction of large infrastructure projects. The needs are great.
Minister of Infrastructure Andreas Carlson says that the idea behind the government's mission is that more will be built faster, but also that more will be built for every krona that the state invests.
The current form, where the Swedish Transport Administration basically does everything once the government has set frameworks and priorities, does not fully deliver on its promises. Many projects drag on and often become many times more expensive than planned.
Norgren has also been tasked with proposing projects that could be suitable for a state-owned company. He says that these could include sections of the E4 at Skellefteå and the Kongberget-Gnarp section at Sundsvall, as well as the Södertörnslänken from the E4 in the southern Stockholm area.
On the railway side, he is promoting Tomteboda railway yard in Solna, the Hässleholm-Lund route and the Norrbotniabanan.
