As storm Johannes advanced on Saturday, the Hesa Fredrik alarm sounded in Gävle - but there was initially confusion over whether it was intentional. It was meant to be triggered, Sara Lindström at the Swedish Transport Administration confirms.

The traffic situation on Saturday was so serious that the Swedish Transport Administration, unusually, issued a VMA, an important message to the public. In connection with this, Hesa Fredrik in Gävle also sounded - a decision that had not been communicated to the evening's press communicator at the Swedish Transport Administration, who said that the authority had not requested it.

But on Sunday, Sara Lindström, press communicator at the Swedish Transport Administration, stated that it was certainly the intention.

We had decided that it should sound to draw extra attention to this VMA. We felt it was justified; there was a lot happening on the roads yesterday, she says and continues:

It is unfortunate that this information had not reached our press service. It slipped out and we can only regret that it was unclear, but it was we who had requested it.

The VMAs were removed at nine o'clock on Sunday morning.

"This is done because we don't see the situation getting worse now. It has calmed down, but we continue to urge people to avoid going out on the roads today because there are a lot of trees out there and it will take time to clear them up," says Lindström.
