Victor Hedman is a doubtful card for the Olympics. He missed twelve NHL games earlier this season due to injury and now needs elbow surgery. "He is expected to be back in early February and play for Sweden in the Olympics," writes Tampa Bay on X.

Star guard Victor Hedman was back in action last weekend after an injury, but this week the 34-year-old was forced to sit out Tampa Bay's away game against Montreal. It's unclear whether it was due to the same injury or if he suffered a new one.

On Friday evening, the NHL team Tampa Bay Lightning released an update on X's injury status:

"Victor Hedman will undergo elbow surgery on Monday. He is expected to be back in early February and play for Sweden in the Olympics."

Victor Hedman is one of six players pre-selected for Tre Kronor's Olympic squad. It will be a race against time for Hedman to be ready for the Olympic opener against Italy in Milan on February 11.

After the game against New Jersey, which Tampa Bay won 8–4, Swedish goalkeeper Jonas Johansson said he hoped for a quick return for his Swedish teammate.

Everyone feels for him. It's Olympic year, and I really hope he gets to be part of it. He's fighting like hell all the time. He's an important cog here. I hope things work out for him, says Johansson.
