A jubilant and happy Ljutic took home the slalom in Austrian Semmering. Not only was it the 20-year-old's first World Championship victory in her career, but she also became the first Croatian woman to win in the World Championship in almost 19 years. The last time, in March 2006, it was the superstar Janica Kostelic who won the giant slalom in Åre.
This has been my dream since I was little and to get to do it today feels completely incredible, says Zrinka Ljutic after the victory, according to the news agency AP.
Ljutic was completely superior and won with a second and 75 hundredths ahead of second-placed Lena Dürr from Germany. Down to third-placed Katharina Liensberger from Austria, it was another tenth.
Behind them, Sara Hector delivered a new fine performance, after Saturday's second place in the giant slalom. Hector had a grip on a podium spot after the first run, 51 hundredths behind third-placed Swiss Camille Rast.
The Swede delivered a fine second run and managed to climb one place. The fifth place was the 32-year-old's best in slalom this season.
Both Cornelia Öhlund and Hanna Aronsson Elfman made fine climbs in the second run. Öhlund from 22nd to 16th and Aronsson Elfman from 29th to 17th.
Anna Swenn-Larsson made a major mistake in the first run and therefore missed the second run.
