"The occupation forces have just released the healthcare worker Asaad al-Nsasrah, who was detained on March 23, 2025, when he performed his humanitarian duty during the massacre of healthcare workers in Tal al-Sultan (...)", it says in a statement from the Palestinian Red Crescent.

Al-Nsasrah has not yet appeared in person after his release. In an interview with AFP nearly two weeks ago, his wife Nafiza al-Nsasrah appealed for international help to bring her husband home.

We have no information, no idea which prison he is in or where he is being held, or what condition he is in, she said then, sitting in the family's temporary shelter with a tarpaulin as a roof outside the city of Khan Yunis.

Buried in the Sand

Israeli forces opened fire on a number of ambulances that responded to an alarm near the city of Rafah in southern Gaza on March 23, five days after Israel had broken a fragile ceasefire and resumed attacks on the Palestinian area.

The healthcare workers were initially reported missing and a week later their remains were found buried in the sand next to their destroyed work vehicles.

Recorded a Video Clip

A few days later, Israel's military described it as its soldiers shooting at "terrorists" who approached them in "suspicious vehicles". It was also claimed that the vehicles were driven with their lights off.

A video clip recorded by one of the fatalities on their phone was later found and showed how the ambulances drove with both headlights and flashing blue lights on.

Israel's military later conducted its own investigation, saying it had identified "operational mistakes", but that the soldiers did not intentionally kill anyone or shoot indiscriminately. The military further claimed that six of the fatalities were to be considered combatants, after previously saying that nine were. This is completely contradicted by the organizations involved.
