It's Sweden against Poland, with a place at the World Cup this summer at stake, around 100 million in revenue for the football association and something few players are privileged to experience.

"It's fun to compete with one of the best players in the world. It's something I'm looking forward to," says Starfelt about what awaits him when he faces the 37-year-old who plays for Barcelona.

Believe in Gyökeres

It is also the duel between Viktor Gyökeres and Lewandowski, the strikers who took their national teams to the playoff final at a packed Strawberry Arena on Tuesday night.

"If Viktor plays close to what he did against Ukraine, I think he will win," Starfelt says of the hat-trick scorer in the 3-1 victory.

Starfelt came on in the 37th minute against Ukraine in Valencia after Isak Hien was forced off. Hien's injury was so serious that he left the squad on Saturday.

That, of course, opens the door for Starfelt to start against Poland.

"I always prepare to play, whether it's from the start or jumping in. It's just the same as usual."

The performance against Ukraine was brilliant. Your best in the national team?

"You could say that. I've mostly played friendly matches before and had a few matches in the Nations League. This was probably the most important one and the one I'm most happy with."

"It was nice for us as a team to have such a good performance in such an important match, when things weren't looking good in the World Cup qualifiers."

“Extremely powerful”

The national team takes on Poland in front of around 50,000 spectators at Strawberry Arena.

"It will be extremely powerful. You have to see it as an opportunity that we can take the nation to the World Cup, despite the fact that we have been so questioned. It will be really fun," says Starfelt.

The players were given almost a day off after returning from Valencia on Friday evening.

"I've met the family who traveled here to watch the match," says the center back.

The time off was welcome and - as Starfelt sees it - useful.

"It was obviously a lot of pressure, with the win and everything. It was nice to get out there a bit, recharge the batteries and get back to 100 percent for the game against Poland. A good choice by Graham Potter to do that to recharge and get new energy," says Starfelt.
