Harvey Elliott was substituted in for Egyptian Mohamed Salah in the 86th minute at Parc des Princes against Paris Saint-Germain.
A minute later, the Englishman scored 1–0 in the first match of the two in the round of 16 for his Liverpool. It was the only goal of the match and can be described as a theft by the Englishmen.
PSG dominated
PSG dominated heavily against the Premier League leader. The home team had around 70 percent ball possession and a significant advantage in the number of shots, but Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker played a great game. Paris also had a goal disallowed for offside.
Bayern München took a strong grip on a quarterfinal spot in the "German derby" against Bayer Leverkusen. The German giant won 3–0 at home after striker Harry Kane scored the leading goal and the final goal, which came on a penalty. In between, Jamal Musiala scored 2–0 after Leverkusen's goalkeeper Matej Kovar made a mistake when trying to catch a cross.
Barcelona faced a tough uphill battle away against Benfica when young center-back Pau Cubarsí was sent off in the 22nd minute. This was after he fouled Greek Vangelis Pavlidis just outside the penalty area.
No goal fest
When the teams met in the group stage of the Champions League, it was a real goal fest in Lisbon. The Spanish giant eventually won the match against the Portuguese with 5–4.
There was no repeat of that – except that Barça won. Raphinha scored the winning goal for the visitors in the 61st minute.
Inter won clearly against Feynoord with 2–0. Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martínnez scored the goals.
The return matches will be played on March 11.
