There is a lot of work behind the stage costume that Klara Hammarström has chosen for "On and on and on".
But after testing the number live on stage at Scandinavium, a little more work was still required, notes the 24-year-old with a big laugh.
It's like a sculpture, a 3D-printed costume made after my bust, she says.
But it's not very elastic, so what happened today was that the stage costume didn't quite fit. And I have nothing underneath.
So it was close to a classic naked shock?
Yes, exactly. It was close to a naked shock. But we solved it pretty well by taking in a reserve top.
On Thursday, the artists who will compete in Gothenburg on Saturday evening got to run through their songs three times each.
This is the first real test of both stage costumes and other things that need to sit before it's broadcast live.
There's a lot to think about. It's a bit different coming from my little room and out into this context, says debutant Nomi Tales.
But I still felt very comfortable on stage when I stood there.
Longing for the spotlight
Erik Segerstedt has been in the competition twice before, but this is the first time as a solo artist. In 2009, he sang with Danny Saucedo and Mattias Andréasson in EMD, and in 2013 with Norwegian artist Tone Damli.
Since 2017, he has mostly participated as a backing vocalist, including twice behind Robin Bengtsson. However, it hasn't made him less eager for the spotlight.
Every time I've sung backing and stood there in the dark in the wings, I've peeked at the artists and thought "I can stand there one day", he says.
Wants to spare his parents
What's the biggest difference between being an artist and a backing vocalist?
- As a backing vocalist, you can stand there with a bottle of water and take it easy. You don't have to think about camera angles or how you look, just sing as well as you can. It's a bit like standing in a studio.
Being an artist involves much more nervousness, but you're so pumped up that it trumps the nervousness.
On Saturday evening, everything has to sit properly. By then, Klara Hammarström's silver breastplate must also sit as it should.
Yes, it would be nice to avoid worrying about a naked shock. I'll make sure mom and dad don't see it, she says.
