Hamas does not regret the deadly attack on October 7 nearly two years ago that triggered the war in Gaza. This is stated by Ghazi Hamad, who is participating in the peace negotiations with Israel on behalf of Hamas' political branch, in an interview with CNN.

It will soon be two years since the terror-stamped Hamas stormed into Israel and killed almost 1,200 people and took more than 250 hostages. In the interview with CNN, Hamas negotiator Ghazi Hamad says that Hamas does not regret its actions that day and not even the deadly consequences the attack triggered.

Gained the cause

He also repeats the false claim from Hamas that the attack was only directed against Israeli military installations and that they never intended to kidnap civilians.

Hamad says that the attack has gained the Palestinian cause.

Do you know what the advantage of October 7 is now? Hamad asks and gives examples of the growing international support for Palestine.

I think this is a golden opportunity for the world to change history.

High price

He sees the high price that Palestinians have paid during the years that have passed since the Hamas attack triggered the war as a necessary evil. More than 65,000 Palestinians have, according to Hamas-controlled authorities, been killed by Israel and almost 2 million inhabitants have been displaced from their homes in Gaza.

I know that the price is high, but I ask again, what is the alternative? said Hamad.

He is, however, clear that he believes it was both justified and necessary to provoke Israel's devastating attacks on Gaza with the many Palestinian casualties that followed.

What do you expect the Palestinians to do, just be silent while the whole world watches the Palestinian people's suffering and does nothing? says Ghazi Hamad.
