"If you are referring to weapons with a range beyond the buffer zone, then yes, it is reasonable to discuss, because they could pose a threat to the other side," said Abu Marzouk, a senior Hamas official, in response to a question from Qatar-based Al Jazeera television channel regarding the group's disarmament.
But much remains to be done before an agreement on the next step in the peace plan that US President Donald Trump presented at the end of September can be reached.
We have not entered that phase yet to have such discussions, says Abu Marzouk.
Hamas intends to present an alternative to the temporary “international stabilization force” mentioned in Trump’s plan, according to Mousa Abu Marzouk.
Gaza would instead be controlled by a security force consisting of, among others, Hamas's own police and security forces, who would then retain their small arms, he adds.
