The goal of Hamas' negotiations in Cairo is to discuss with Egyptian representatives "ways to put an end to the current crisis and ensure that the occupation power adheres to the agreement", says a representative, referring to Israel.
Israel is simultaneously pressing Hamas to release the hostages and to adhere to the ceasefire agreement. Otherwise, no mercy will be shown, says Defense Minister Israel Katz in a statement.
He reminds of US President Donald Trump's words that "hell will break loose" if Hamas does not fulfill its commitments.
The gates of hell will open, just as the American president promised, says Katz.
The new Gaza war will be different in intensity compared to the one fought before the ceasefire. And it will not end until Hamas is defeated and all hostages are free.
Hamas, on its part, repeats on Wednesday its claims that Israel is violating the ceasefire and that the group does not "accept" the American and Israeli threats.
During the first phase of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, the parties are to exchange hostages and prisoners in several stages. Some exchanges have already taken place, but in recent days the parties have accused each other of violating the agreement, and Hamas has threatened not to hand over three hostages on Saturday as planned.
