A flu-ridden Calle Halfvarsson broke off the Ski World Championship prematurely. Now he breaks the silence for Expressen: It feels dismal. How much bad luck can one really have as a human being?

Calle Halfvarsson was forced to withdraw from the sprint relay early on Wednesday morning and later the same day, the news came that his World Championship is over.

Halfvarsson has already left Trondheim, with a 17th place (skiathlon) and a 31st place (middle-distance race) in his luggage.

I think I've had some crap in my body since before the skiathlon, says the 35-year-old to Expressen.

I've had ridiculously bad values on my smartwatch. And the last 24 hours, everything has gone straight downhill – now it's bottomed out.

Halfvarsson's tough World Championship exit is the culmination of a season where almost everything has gone against the blue-yellow ski profile from Sågmyra. He says that the feeling was good during training before the season, before the back problems arose.

There hasn't been a single second all winter without me feeling my back. Sometimes it's felt like it's half gone, he says.

Calle Halfvarsson was replaced in the sprint relay by Oskar Svensson, who took bronze with Edvin Anger. On Thursday's traditional relay, he will be replaced by Truls Gisselman instead.

The men's World Championship concludes with the 50km race on Saturday.
