The round of 16 in Milan ended 0–0, but it felt like a victory for Häcken.
Thanks to the 1–0 victory in the home match, Häcken can look forward to the quarter-final match in February. There, they will face Icelandic Breidablik, who defeated Danish Fortuna Hjørring after extra time in their round of 16.
Häcken had five newly selected blue-yellow national team players in the starting eleven, including goalkeeper Jennifer Falk who once again held firm against the Italians. Inter were also missing Swedish ex-national team player Olivia Schough, who is still not ready to play after breaking a finger in training.
Häcken was allowed to play in the European Cup, the new club tournament in women's football, after failing to qualify for the Champions League earlier in the fall.
Hammarby, the other Swedish team in the tournament, has a 3-1 lead heading into Thursday's home return against Ajax.
