Tensions between nuclear powers India and Pakistan are worse than in many years. This is especially true in recent days, since 26 people were killed in an attack near the popular tourist resort of Pahalgam in Indian Kashmir on Tuesday, the deadliest attack in the region in 25 years.

The UN urges India and Pakistan in a statement to exercise "maximum restraint and to ensure that the situation and the development we have seen do not deteriorate further".

India accuses Pakistan of supporting "cross-border terrorism", while Pakistan denies having had anything to do with the incident. On Friday, Pakistan's Senate unanimously adopted a resolution rejecting India's accusations.

Two homes are reported to have been blown up in Kashmir in the hunt for those responsible, and Indian forces have issued wanted notices with drawings of three suspected men.

I tell the whole world: India will identify, track and punish every terrorist and their supporters, said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday.

We will pursue them to the end of the world.

On Thursday, India ordered all Pakistanis to leave the country. Pakistan expelled several Indian diplomats and put trade relations between the countries on hold.
