What: World Championships in Nordic Skiing.
Where: Trondheim, Norway.
When: 26 February–9 March.
TV/Radio: TV6, Viaplay, and P4 Radiosporten.
+ The Comeback Everyone's Talking About
Therese Johaug had actually quit. But then the multiple OS and World Championship gold medalist started thinking about the home World Championships in 2025. The temptation became too great, and about two years later, she was back on the starting line. She hasn't been as dominant as before, but won the Tour de Ski in superior style and goes into the World Championships as one of the heavy gold favorites, especially in the final 50 km event.
+ Norwegian-Swedish Rivalry
Expect a World Championship filled with Nordic duels. Apart from all the relays where Sweden wants to outdo the home nation, you can look forward to, among other things: Jonna Sundling against Kristine Stavås Skistad in the women's sprint, Edvin Anger against Johannes Høsflot Klæbo in the men's sprint, and Frida Karlsson and Ebba Andersson against Therese Johaug in all distance events.
+ Full Houses and Climate Actions
The World Championship organizer has its work cut out during the championships. Partly, an environmental organization has threatened to disrupt the 50 km event on the final competition weekend in a "peaceful and open manner" if all visible advertising for companies working with fossil fuels doesn't disappear. Partly, there's always a risk of alcohol-related problems when there are big ski competitions in Norway. During the annual 50 km event in Holmenkollen, it often gets rowdy with intoxication and fights – an overhanging risk also now when tens of thousands of home fans line the World Championship tracks.
+ Not Just Cross-Country Skiing
It's called the World Championships in Nordic Skiing for a reason. Apart from cross-country skiing, ski jumping and Nordic combined are on the official program. Frida Westman has been long-term injured but is selected for the World Championships and, together with Jenny Forsberg, makes up the Swedish ski jumping team.
History will be written on March 4 when the para-World Championships in cross-country skiing are integrated with the ski World Championships for the first time. The para-athletes' championships are decided in Italian Toblach, but their World Championship sprint – where Zebastian Modin is going for a medal – is run in Trondheim.
