The Baltic Sea is a multi-ill patient, says MEP Isabella Lövin at a press conference.
Some of the problems are eutrophication, dead seabeds, environmental toxins and record-low fish stocks.
One proposal is to remove industrial fishing from the Swedish fishing quota. Today, 90% of the quota goes to animal feed instead of becoming fish on the plate.
Other proposals include investing 1 billion in measures against eutrophication and 1 billion to, among other things, reduce agricultural leakage into the Baltic Sea. The MP wants to invest a further 1.3 billion in water supply systems and efforts against PFAS.
