Greek authorities have introduced mandatory breaks at work in parts of the country where it is expected to be over 40 degrees hot this week.

Greeks who do physical labor outdoors or work with delivering food must take a break between 12 and 17 o'clock to protect themselves from the heat wave. The rule applies mainly in the central part of the country and on several islands.

Employers have also been urged to let their employees work from home if possible. Greek authorities say they have taken several steps to handle the effects of climate change. Among other things, a record number of firefighters are on duty this summer.
