- "I think Ida Gabrielsson is better at implementing a tax for billionaires than Mikael Damberg," says Omar Khan, Greater Stockholm, when he compares the Left Party's vice chair and economic policy spokesperson with the Social Democrats' spokesperson on the issue at the V Congress in Örebro.
The delegates who participated in the debate and backed the party board's wording on the government issue in the election platform were a large majority.
After the debate ended, it turned out there would not even be a vote on the proposal that V should only enter government in the event of a red-green election victory and should vote no to any red-green constellation that did not offer V a place. Only 22 of 225 delegates wanted to vote on a counterproposal on the government issue. At least 23 were required.
No to everyone
Maja Grubelic, Skåne, was one of the few critics. She does not want V to vote no to all governments, even Social Democratic governments, or to oppose red-green coalitions that exclude V. She supported a party board member's motion to remove the sentence with that meaning. Jan-Olov Carlsson, Umeå, also wanted it removed.
"Our voters primarily want the Tidö government removed," he said.
Several motions argued against ruling out a role as a cooperating party, saying it could be just as effective a way to get important left-wing issues through.
But many speakers said the Left Party had already tried that in several variations. The experiences were harrowing, and the Social Democrats cannot be trusted to deliver left-wing policies. The Left Party should not be a doormat again.
Buzz Nooshi
"Let's tie Nooshi to the mast and drive the ship at full speed toward election victory," said Jesper Sahlén Raquette, chairman of the Left Party in Skåne.
When she began the section on the government issue, Ida Gabrielsson said it would be a big mistake to back down from the government demand and its conditions.
- "It would signal that we have folded. We must be crystal clear," said Gabrielsson, emphasizing that "whoever wants to govern on our mandate must have us on board."
The formal decision on the entire election platform will be made on Saturday afternoon.
