The IT giant has signed an agreement to purchase 250 megawatt from Zeevonk to power its operations in the Netherlands, according to a press release from Danish CIP, which, together with, among others, Swedish Vattenfall, owns the facility.
This is a major milestone in our ambition to use only emission-free energy everywhere we have operations by 2030 at the latest, says Adam Elman, sustainability manager at Google in Europe.
Elman emphasizes that Zeevonk is being built entirely without subsidies. The facility will consist of offshore wind power with an effect of 2,000 megawatt and floating solar panels with an effect of 50 megawatt, and is expected to be fully operational by 2029.
For comparison, Oskarshamn 3, Sweden's largest nuclear reactor, can produce 1,450 megawatt.
