Newcastle took the lead twice when the league leaders visited St James' Park in an entertaining football match at the very least.
The first goal came in the 35th minute when Alexander Isak, a few meters outside the penalty area, beautifully blasted in 1–0 with his right foot. The goal was Isak's fifth in the Premier League this season.
More was to come from the Swedish attacking star, who was in a playful mood. For after Curtis Jones equalized for Liverpool in the 50th minute, it didn't take long before Newcastle took the lead again. Isak played forward to Anthony Gordon, who turned away from Joe Gomez and shot 2–1.
But Liverpool – and not least Mohamed Salah – showed class. Salah equalized in the 68th minute and then hit the post before finding the right spot again in the 83rd minute.
But not even Salah got to be the match hero. Liverpool's goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher misjudged an incoming pass and Fabian Schär could poke in 3–3 in the 90th minute.
The reigning champions in Manchester City simultaneously put an end to the team's deep form crisis, with seven consecutive matches without a win.
At home against Nottingham, there was no doubt about it, and City won 3–0. Bernardo Silva nodded in the first goal in the eighth minute, and Kevin De Bruyne added to 2–0 just over half an hour later, shortly after the visitors' Chris Wood shot wide in a clear scoring opportunity.
In the second half, Jérémy Doku extended to 3–0 and ensured that Manchester City got a comfortable ending to the match. The gap to Liverpool is now nine points.
Right behind Liverpool are Chelsea and Arsenal, who both narrowed the gap to seven points thanks to their wins on Wednesday evening. Chelsea rolled over Southampton away (5–1) while Arsenal won the top match at home against Manchester United (2–0).
