GHF says in a statement during the night against Wednesday that it is closing its distribution centers for "updating, streamlining, and improvement work and will not reopen until Thursday.

In recent days, at least around 60 Palestinians have been killed in connection with thousands of people on their way to distribution points.

Sunday night, according to AP, around 30 people were killed and over 170 injured when they, along with thousands of others, were on their way to one of the distribution points in Rafah.

Points to Israeli soldiers

On Tuesday, at least 27 people were killed and a large number of people were injured. This time, too, the killing took place when thousands had set out to collect emergency assistance.

On both occasions, witnesses who were on the spot have told several media outlets that people were shot dead by Israeli soldiers who opened fire on the crowds.

Israel denies being behind the bloodshed.

The Israeli military has confirmed the temporary closure and warns against traveling "on roads leading to distribution centers, which are considered combat zones".

Israel condemns Guterres

On Tuesday, Sweden's Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) backed up the UN Secretary-General António Guterres and demanded an independent investigation into the bloodbath.

"It is completely unacceptable that people are forced to risk their lives to get food and other necessities. The events must be immediately investigated and those responsible held accountable", writes Malmer Stenergard in a post on X.

From an Israeli perspective, interest in such an investigation appears to be lukewarm for the time being. Oren Marmorstein, spokesperson for the country's Foreign Ministry, condemns in a post on X Guterres' demands as "shameful" and accuses the UN of being more interested in "nurturing Hamas and its war machinery" than ensuring humanitarian aid to Gaza.
