The UN's food agency (WFP) warns of an increasingly dystopian situation in war-torn Gaza.
"Gaza is at breaking point. Desperation is sky-high – I saw it with my own eyes", says WFP's chief Cindy McCain in a statement after visiting Khan Yunis and Dayr al-Balah.
McCain describes meetings with Palestinian children who were "unrecognizable" compared to photos from before the war.
"I met starving children being treated for severe malnutrition and saw pictures taken when they were healthy. Today, the children are unrecognizable", she says.
In the statement, she urges Israel to immediately allow in more humanitarian aid and permit more food distribution stations, according to AFP.
Last Friday, the UN-backed IPC, which monitors food availability in the world, found that full-blown famine prevails in Gaza City and surrounding areas. The assessment is very unusual. It follows strict scientific requirements and has only been established a few times before in IPC's history.
Israel claims that the report is "fabricated" and demands that it be withdrawn.
