The healthcare system in Gaza is on the brink of collapse and the shortage of medical equipment and food is significant, writes Save the Children in a press release a month after Israel introduced its blockade.
Today, there are around 50,000 pregnant women in Gaza. Pregnancy complications that could normally be treated are now becoming life-threatening, writes the organization.
"The proportion of babies born prematurely and underweight has increased, which can lead to problems for the rest of their lives. We are also receiving reports of children who are so malnourished that wounds do not heal," says Cecilia Chatterjee-Martinsen at Save the Children.
In the statement, she urges Sweden and the EU to increase pressure on Israel to allow aid into Gaza.
