Gais took command directly when Djurgården visited in a match that was about important points in the hunt for European places. After a quarter of an hour, the reward also came.
Gustav Lundgren made a precise pass to Ibrahim Diabaté, who from close range made it 1–0. The Djurgården players called for offside, but the replay showed that the attacker was on the right side.
Solo goal
Just minutes later, it happened again. Amin Boudri took matters into his own hands with a classy goal. The 21-year-old stormed forward from his own half, passed Matias Siltanen and elegantly chipped in 2–0.
Djurgården reduced just before the break through August Priske, but Gais went to the break in the lead.
Before the second half, Djurgården was forced to change goalkeeper – Jacob Rinne replaced Filip Manojlovic.
One goal each in the second half then ensured that the final result was written to 3–2 for Gais.
"Tough of course"
Djurgården's team captain Marcus Danielson was very disappointed after the match and a European place that now looks tough to reach.
A big disappointment that we lose, says the Dif captain to HBO Max and continues:
We concede easy goals, that's what you always say, but it's tough. It feels like we're on our way into the match after their 1–0 goal, but then we get 2–0 on a counterattack on a corner. Tough of course, but we keep going all the way and have some chances to equalize here at the end.
Gais is now alone in third place in the Allsvenskan table with 48 points. Malmö FF is lurking three points behind and AIK is four points behind, after losing to Hammarby in the Stockholm derby that was played at the same time.
Djurgården is seventh in the table.
