Luleå has six consecutive national championships in ice hockey on the women's side. But now the streak may be about to end.
The Norrbotten team is in a tough spot, after losing the first two national championship finals against regular season runner-up Frölunda, which is now just one win away from taking home a historic first national championship on the women's side.
This after turning around a deficit in the second final on Friday.
It's far from over. They (Luleå) have a fantastic team with many historic wins. I'm completely sure they've been down 0-2 before and managed to come back. We need to approach with respect, because no one will give us the victory, says Stephanie Neatby.
But it could have ended differently.
"Out of our control"
In the third period, Luleå's Savannah Norcross had a goal, but the referees disallowed it due to goalie interference.
Something the 24-year-old strongly disagreed with.
I'm so disappointed in the referees. Things aren't judged fairly, I don't care what anyone says. And that's what has dictated these two games. It's out of our control, says Norcross to SVT.
"Everyone hates Luleå"
She then continues her anger towards the referees.
It's obvious that everyone hates Luleå. All other clubs hate us and we need to understand that it's everyone against us, including the referees.
In the second period, Frölunda equalized through Michelle Karvinen – who decided the first final – and in the third, Emilia Vesa scored the decisive 2-1 goal.
The final series in SDHL is played in best of five matches.
