"Frida is slowly getting back to full strength. She competed in her first ski competition on Friday, and to maintain the right balance, she has now, in consultation with the coach and medical team, decided to opt out of tomorrow's skiathlon," says national team doctor Rickard Noberius in a statement from the association.
Before the season got underway, Frida Larsson was forced to undergo alternative training in the warmth on the Spanish island of Teneriffa, due to problems with her foot.
Despite this, she competed in the Swedish premiere in Bruksvallarna and then crushed all opposition in the World Cup premiere in Finnish Ruka on 10 kilometers classical last weekend. Then, Karlsson was 46.5 seconds ahead of comeback Norwegian Therese Johaug.
On Friday in Lillehammer, it was the Norwegian's turn to stand on top of the podium. Johaug won 10 kilometers freestyle and was 46.4 seconds ahead of Karlsson at the finish, who finished fourth.
However, there will be no more races for Karlsson in Lillehammer now that she is opting out of Sunday's skiathlon.
No replacement will be called in, but Moa Lundgren will replace Linn Svahn, who previously withdrew from the competitions in Lillehammer due to a cold.
