French fighter jets have bombed IS positions in central Syria, according to Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu.
On X, he writes that French forces continue to "fight against terrorism" in the Middle East.
Sunday's attack is France's first against Syrian territory since dictator Bashar al-Assad's regime fell earlier in December.
The regime's collapse has raised concerns that the terrorist organization IS will take advantage of the chaotic situation and retake territory in the region. The group has survived in both Iraq and Syria, despite the so-called caliphate that IS proclaimed in 2014 falling five years later.
