On Thursday afternoon, Richard Svensson took the boat home to Fotö in the Gothenburg archipelago from work in Torslanda.
When he first saw the dorsal fins in the water near Fotö, he had time to think "what the hell are those sticks", before realizing that for the first time in his 50-year life he was seeing killer whales.
It was a very powerful feeling. One of them was really, really big. I think it was a family.
The closest he got was about 20 metres, and he also filmed the animals with his mobile phone.
Killer whales are an unusual sight along Swedish coasts, but Svensson thinks he knows why they were there.
This is the area where the mackerel spawn this time of year, so they were probably there to eat.
