23-year-old Philip Broberg was recruited to St Louis from Edmonton before this season and has scored nine points (2+7) in twelve matches in his new club.
But in the meeting with Toronto, disaster struck seven minutes into the second period. The opponent's Mitch Marner fell on Broberg's right leg, which looked like it was in an unfortunate angle. Broberg lay down before being led off the ice.
"A warrior"
St Louis eventually won 4–2, but how long the team will now have to manage without Philip Broberg remains to be seen.
He's a warrior. He'll be back as soon as he can. It was nice to see the guys step up afterwards, even though it was tough to see him get injured, says goalie Jordan Binnington according to nhl.com.
Another NHL goalie, Ottawa's Swedish Anton Forsberg, simultaneously held a shutout for the second time in two weeks when Ottawa won 3–0 against Seattle.
Forsberg mainly shares the goalie duties in Ottawa with new acquisition and top goalie Linus Ullmark, who came from Boston this year, and has gotten off to a good start.
Teeth-saving
It's always fun to hold a shutout, of course, but the guys made it easy for me, says Forsberg after the match, referring to teammates who blocked shots other than the 22 that Forsberg took care of.
Especially his performance in the third period is highlighted, when Ottawa lost some energy and Forsberg had to show what he could do, including a teeth-saving save on an attack by Seattle's Jordan Eberle.
Another Forsberg, Filip, showed himself forward when Nashville beat Colorado with 5–2. Forsberg made it 4–2 in an empty net with just over a minute left of the third period, assisted by Gustav Nyquist, and 23 seconds later Nyquist scored 5–2.
