Anton Forsberg was peppered with shots in Ottawa's goal. But the Swede made a total of 40 saves – and kept a clean sheet throughout the match against Florida. It was the third time this season that the 32-year-old managed such a feat.
Despite several spectacular saves – including one in the middle of the second period where he saved a shot from Florida's Seth Jones – it looked at one point in the second period as if Anton Forsberg had let in a shot. But it was quickly ruled out due to a high stick and Ottawa won 3–0.
"Fantastic tonight"
The teammates' praise was not long in coming.
They threw every puck at the goal. Honestly, I think the most impressive thing about his game was that he got out of his corner, played the puck very well and helped the whole team. He was fantastic tonight, says Ottawa's Jake Sanderson, who scored a goal and an assist, to reporters after the match.
You love to see how a guy like him glides in and shuts the door against the reigning Stanley Cup champions. It was an important match and an important win, agrees Ottawa forward Drake Batherson.
Markström kept a clean sheet
The Swede himself is somewhat more humble – and says it's been a long process to get where he is today.
At the beginning of the year, my statistics weren't the best. But it didn't feel like I was playing badly, so we just talked about keeping at it, trusting the process and working on what I needed. Apparently, it's given some success now, he says.
And Forsberg was in good company. The same evening, New Jersey's goalkeeper Jacob Markström made 26 saves and contributed to a 4–0 win over New York Rangers.
He made some strong saves at crucial moments. I'm really happy for his sake and for the work he's done giving results tonight. We're all happy, says New Jersey teammate Nico Hischier.
