The investigation was supposed to be completed by the end of January, but the Swedish National Board of Forensic Medicine now has until February 13 to issue a statement, following a decision by the district court.
According to documents obtained by Aftonbladet, the main reason for the delay is that the investigation is complicated.
"It is not entirely unusual for the agency to request a postponement if it is judged that more time is needed to answer the court's questions, which is also what was done in the current case," writes Jimmy Blomqvist Larsson, press officer at the Swedish National Board of Forensic Medicine, to Mitt i.
It was after the Christmas holidays that a woman in her mid-20s who had previously been reported missing was found dead after a search operation in Rönninge, southwest of Stockholm.
The 26-year-old has been arrested on probable cause on suspicion of murdering the woman. The person admits to aggravated assault but denies murder.
