"Six Swedes left Gaza via the Kerem Shalom border crossing on March 12, for further travel to Sweden via Jordan", writes the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in an email to TT.
Since the war began on October 7, 2023, after Hamas' large-scale terrorist attack on Israel, around 600 Swedes have left Gaza. An estimated 50 Swedish citizens are still believed to be there, but the figure is uncertain.
"The Ministry for Foreign Affairs is working to, to the extent possible, assist the Swedes who have expressed a desire to leave Gaza and are still located there", writes the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
The Kerem Shalom border crossing between Gaza and Egypt was closed in May last year. The Swedes who have now left are the first to leave the war-torn area with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs' assistance since then, which Svenska Dagbladet was the first to report on. According to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, there are, however, individuals who have left without consular assistance.
The Ministry for Foreign Affairs states that they have also carried out a consular operation at the border crossing between the West Bank and Jordan, but without specifying what it concerns.
